photoblog image Self-Portrait: The Beginning

Self-Portrait: The Beginning

I know (particularly for those of you who've seen this pic), this is just sheer laziness. There's nothing else in my archives worth posting (especially after yesterday's pic) that i've had to resort to a self portrait i'd tucked away for a rainy day. However, this picture has some significance to my photoblogging. This is really where it all began. I was in my car trying out my shooting skills with my new camera phone the weekend before Mista Skee started his cameraphone series and some of the pictures came out better than I expected. Sort of got me thinking "let's see how far can we go with this."... and here i am on this journey still trying to find out how far i can go...

Someone suggested i smoothen out the skin (on the forehead) - well,  first, i don't know how to do this with PS7 (of course i didn't tell the person this ;)) and even if did, i wouldn't as somehow, i think the blemishes work well with the overall picture. Having said that, i'd like your opinion on whether a grain gives this picture a more even (and better) effect/quality... see http://shusho.shutterchance.com/photoblog/18830.htm

Initially I was going to say, the res of this picture was too poor and pixelated until i read how you came about it. For a camera phone pic, not bad stuff. and yes you look good too!!
Morenike Olagbaju: Yeah, quite a lot of pixel trouble, esp. around my nose. It wasn't obvious until i blew it up. Thanks.
Soooooo it was you!!!!!....Baby you fine O!!
Morenike Olagbaju: lol! Thanks.

I'm hating you soooo much right now. Why in the world did you put up a picture of yourself? I'm not going to let you take a picture of me after this. A woman's got to have some pride after all. I don't want everyone saying 'oh what great hair she's got' cos they don't want to say 'she's not bad but she's no Morenike'. Of course, you know I love the picture grainy or not.
Morenike Olagbaju: TINKS! we both know that unlike you, those are extensions. Why, oh why are you (who's popularly known as black beauty) fishing for compliments?

P.S. you're the onlyone who commented on the grainy pic. Thanks.
nice texture, nice expression, nice frame.
Morenike Olagbaju: thanks, so which do you prefer, this one or the version with the film grain?

Hi shusho. There's not much to choose between them but I think on balance I prefer the grainier one for this subject. I think it's because of the shortcomings in the dynamic range of a camera phone that has blown out some highlights, especially in the teeth, so the slightly darker one has the edge for me.

By the way, that's a really beautiful smile you have there. Long may you have something to smile about.
Morenike Olagbaju: Amen Colin, Amen.

p.s. I think i prefer the grainy pic too
this one Morenike. I think that for this image it is better this way

Morenike Olagbaju: Now is this the Sinem in the Suby or the Suby in the Sinem speaking? wink Thanks.

The hair and the highlights just do it for me. Nice portrait.
Morenike Olagbaju: Yeah, i accentuated some of the highlights and the whites of my eyes with the dodge tool in PS7. Tried to tone down my teeth, but was unsuccessful. Any tips?

I know bits and pieces about a lot of things, but with photography, there is a huge knowledge gap and it's just been exposed. Thanks to you. Meanwhile, what have you done to you? I have spent three days thinking of how to describe what I see but honestly I want ot save it till I see you.

Those eyes!!!!!!!!!!!! Gosh!

This is a pretty self-portrait, the black n white works well, your eyes are beautiful, ur smile is just right and ur hair also plays a role in this cos it seems to liven up the picture, good one!
